Liga 1, Week 13: FC Barcelona Atlètic 2-1 Alicante
Note: This game was originally to be played on 15th November 2009 but was later postponed to 2nd December 2009, due to a chronic shortage of players due to injuries and international commitments.
Barca Atlètic chalked up their sixth consecutive win with 2-1 victory over Alicante at the Mini Estadi on Wednesday night, which takes them up into the play-off spots and just 2 points behind first-placed Mallorca B.
Luis Enrique and Joan Barberá’s young team are in top form right now, not having lost since the 7th round of games, when they lost to Sant Andreu, and having won their last six games on the trot.
Entertaining first half – but no goals
Barca Atlètic and Alicante gave the fans at the Mini Estadi an entertaining first 45 minutes as both teams went for goal. Two chances for Nolito and Jonathan Soriano were the closest for Barca, with the visitors also coming close with opportunities for Iron and Postiga.
Thiago and Soriano on target
Barca came out the stronger after the break and at 54 minutes midfielder Thiago Alcántara put them one up heading in a cross from Montoya. Alicante were not ready to give up yet though, and they came back at the hosts first when Postigo hit the post and then with the equaliser from the same player on 73 minutes. Luis Enrique’s team had the last word though, with Soriano rounding off an extraordinary run from Gai Assulin to make it 2-1 and take all three points.
Barca Atlètic will be aiming to continue their winning ways on Sunday when they travel to Lerida, who are down in the relegation zone. The game kicks off at 17.00 Barcelona time.

Nice to see Thiago Gai and Montoya doing well.
lleida or lerida?
Lleida is the catalan version of the name while in spanish it can be written as Lerida. So I guess you could call it with both names.
Where is Dos Santos and Muniesa?
Gai on the bench once again?
Gai is not yet physically in the best condition to start three games in a week, so since he started three days ago, he was brought in as a sub.
Dos Santos was with the first team on the bench yesterday, so he missed the Atletic game.
As for Muniesa and Sergi Roberto, they seem to have picked up minor injuries to their ankle and adductor respectively, during their stint in the U-17 World cup with Spain. Apparently they might just be fit from the next match onwards.
Wow. Great response. Thanks alot! Is it you who write that article? I'd love to hear in the match reports if some of the regular players are out because of injury etc like you seem to know. Just a tip to have a a brief mention if they are injured, suspended or simply not found good enough by LE.
i hope muniesa and sergi roberto are back soon,Montoya has been performing well….Glad thiago is back…Hey oriol romeou is doing great, i bet he would be use during the african cup nations for the first team…..
And where is Elvis, the best forward of this team???
Elvis, had also had an injury which kept him out for one and half, two months. It seems he has just been given the green light and hes fit to play again
you know anything about gai assulin renewing his contract? but i think since jeffren is going out on loan, gai will be promoted to the first team…
pedro/bojan/gai
cover for
henry/ibra/messi
Yes I usually write the youth articles, and yes I'll try to make note of your suggestion next time onwards
cool! Thanks alot!
thanks sachin..
i love to read news about the atheltic team
Players from this team will shine in the first team very soon.
I can't wait till Thiago breaks into the first team!
yeahh same here,we dont need fabregas…..
We do need Cesc. Thiago is more of an attacking midfielder, not the Xavi type. Hate it or love it, Cesc is the perfect replacement for Xavi at this moment.
Dos Santos is more of the Xavi/Cesc type.
Cheers guys
nice info about the Athletic players.. would our team be promoted to Segunda B or something if we finish in the top 3 or 4?
If we finish in the Top 4, we will be eligible to play the play-offs at the end of the season. A total of 16 teams will play the play offs out of which 4 teams will be promoted to second division while the bottom 4 teams in the Second division will get relegated to Segunda B.
Btw the league we are currently playing in is Segunda B. The second division can be called as Liga Adelante or Segunda division.
oh ok ok.. kool.. thanx Sachin.. hope our juniors get into Segunda division..
