Ex-Barca: Gudjohnsen reveals 9 million euros gambling debt7
According to reports from Iceland, former Barcelona player and Monaco forward Eidur Gudjohnsen (31) owes 9 million euros to two banks. Reports claim that Gudjohnsen would have become addicted to gambling while he was recovering from an injury at his former club Barcelona. Reports reveal that Gudjohnsen has spent his last two summer holidays in Las Vegas, but the Icelandic international has vowed never to set foot in a casino again.
Gudjohnsen is said to owe Banque Havilland in Luxembourg 6 million euros and Glitnir Bank in Iceland 2.7 million euros. Other debts make the figure more than 9 million euros. Gudjohnsen is paid 4.5 million euros a year by his current club, Monaco. Unidentified source has reportedly said: “Eidur is a lovely guy and everyone thought he had beaten his gambling problems.” A spokesman for Gudjohnsen said: “If there are some debts it can’t be too serious.”
