Delgado Ferreiro to be “put on ice”
Catalan newspaper Sport, brought an article about the Chairman of the Technical Committee for Referees, Vitoriano Sanchez Arminio. Arminio was interviewed by Onda Cero, a Catalan radiostation, where he hinted that Delgado Ferreiro, the referee officiating the Malaga – Barcelona match could be suspended, for the mistakes he made in that match.
The Committee Chairman said that Delgado Ferreiro did not make “one mistake, but a series of mistakes” in Saturday’s match, where he among other things, missed Weligton’s attacks on Messi and Pique. He also managed to confuse Messi with Chygrynskiy, and Abidal for Toure when submitting his match report.
Sanchez says he is in favour of using video evidence to penalize not only Weligton, but any other player whose actions on the pitch is unsuitable. He further criticizes the Competition Committee and Appeals, the body responsible for disciplinary sanction against players and coaches, for the way they are proceeding with these kind of cases:
“If a player was red-carded for elbowing, he will only miss one match. And when he repeats his action the next time, he’ll again be given a match suspension. There are no further disciplinary actions taken against the player”, complained Arminio.
He continues to insist, that video evidence should be utilized for infractions not seen by match officials, as he believes every improperly behaving player should be punished.
