Barcelona to appeal Vilanova ban
According to Catalan paper Sport, FC Barcelona will submit an appeal to the Appeals Committee of the RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation) in attempt to reduce Tito Vilanova’s two match ban. FC Barcelona’s assistant coach was expelled by match referee Delgado Ferreiro in the 75th minute in the match against Malaga.
As per Ferreiro’s match report, Vilanova was banned for “protesting loudly and for raising his arm”. The report further says that he was found guilty on another count, when “the assistant coach threw a ball to the pitch from the tunnel as the match was resumed, thus interrupting play”.
For his infractions, Vilanova was handed a two-match ban by the Competition Committee. Barcelona hopes for a successful appeal, which will only see him miss this Saturday’s match against Almeria.
