Xavi: Barca’s success is down to its philosophy

Xavi shared his thoughts with the newspaper Revista de enfermia and gave his views on the la Liga race and also why Barcelona has been doing so well recently. He also touched upon the contentious issue of what he thinks is the best league in the world. Read on for details.

Starting with the La Liga race, he said that having an abundance of talented players like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Luis Fabiano would result in an interesting show and an intriguing race for the league title between Barcelona, Real Madrid and Sevilla, said Xavi.

At the moment, yes, I would say La Liga is a fantastic competition but in my opinion it’s always been ahead of the other leagues”, the midfielder claimed, adding, “I think the best and the most high-profile players are here in Spain and I don’t think any global game possesses the media interest that Barca vs Madrid has. All we can do at Barca is work hard and keep improving.

Xavi also denies that the title is a competition between only Barcelona and Real Madrid saying, “Real Madrid and Barcelona will always be there fighting for the title, but Sevilla look strong this year as do Valencia, who look like they’ll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

He also said the success that Barcelona achieves now is all down to its philosophy. “The football philosophy of this club was drilled in right from the start,” continuing, “We were taught to use triangles and move the ball around. As a young player you pick up good habits, like learning the strengths of your teammates and keeping your head up. Before you get the ball you have to know what you are going to do with it.

I think that today in the first team you can see the results. There are eight or nine players who have come through the ranks and they are the base that this team is built upon.” He quipped.

We have fantastic coaches involved in the youth system. The club is aware of the importance of the youth system here, and now in Guardiola we have a coach who believes in it and the players that are produced”, he declared, praising the coach, who is also a product of the system himself.

Though Barcelona currently leads the table after winning all six  opening matches, Xavi also said none of the competition they’ll be contesting will take precedence over the others, as they will fight for each and every one of them.
