Alves: “Pep is obsessed with football”
“We’ve done a very good job, achieved a very significant endeavour and we’ve managed to make history,” FC Barcelona right-back Daniel Alves told sports network Gol TV, regarding the Catalan club’s ‘triplet’ plus two Super Cups season, which can be ended with their first Club World Cup.
The player acknowledged that it is the team’s “mentality and humility” that have helped him to succeed at the club, and promised to give “a lot more in the future”.
“Winners do not like losing, even when they already have got fifty titles. They were born to win. They work themselves out to achieve those wins,” Alves said with a quirky smile.
The Brazilian international also confessed that his dream is to lift the two cups that he has yet to win, the Club World Cup and the World Cup.
Asked to define his Barcelona coach, Pep Guardiola, Alves only has complimentary words for him, whom he acknowledged is the mastermind responsible for ensuring all the players fit into his footballing plan “like a glove” and “is on track to be one of the best team in football (history)”.
Alves admitted he considers Guardiola to be “one of the guys” in team, and characterised him as “sick (obsessed) with football” for the dedication and passion he devoted to the beautiful game.
“He talks regularly with the players, and always expressed what he wants to say. Tactically, he’s just fantastic, and I learned a lot from him,” said Alves.
Asked about his decision to move to the club at a time when it was in disarray after a trophy-less season and the departure of then coach Frank Rijkaard and iconic players such as Ronaldinho and Deco, the defender said: “For me, it is better to join a team that is rebuilding, because it is a lot more difficult to move in and be integrated fully into an already accomplished team.”
Having joined the team, the Brazilian described the Barcelona dressing room as filled with “players who desire to win titles and make history” and for that reason, as seen from their achievements this season, believes that “he had come to the right place at the right time.”
Finally, talking about his fitness level, Alves, at 26 years old, confessed that he looks after his body carefully as for him “his body is like any machine”, and believes that after the age of 30, those players that take care of themselves can be differentiated from those couldn’t care less.

Yes… its proven… he is a machine. Even he admitted it!
I like the fact that he is only 26… may he stay with us and be as awesome till he atleast 33-34. I dont see much opporunities for the cantera RBs… unless we find a Messi version of a RB in the masia. Even then, competing with Dani for RB will be a tough competition.
For me Dani is the best RB in the world. I dont care what the so called "experts" say about Maicon.
montoya or dalmeou to take over him when he retires…
