A Barcelona – Dynamo Kiev clash not to be missed

El Mundo Deportivo today carries an article that reviews tonight’s Barcelona vs. Dynamo Kiev  encounter, in the Champions League.

This is the first home game for the Champions of Europe, after their debut game which ended in an admirable away draw against Inter Milan, another team amongst the favourites for the european crown. They will be hosting group leader Dynamo Kiev, who defeated Russia’s Rubin Kazan in their opening day match.

A win today can give Barcelona the opportunity to top the group ,yet a bad result, without being dramatic, would place pressure on them in the remaining last four matches, if they are to secure a place in the next round.

This match tonight will again showcase the spectacular connection between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Lionel Messi. The Swedish striker who has scored five goals in as many matches, wants  Barcelona to win Champions league title again, as he has never won this title.

The possibility of watching Andres Iniesta in the starting line-up, which has not happened since the Champions League final in Rome, will also be another incentive to not miss the match. Guardiola has seen to it that Iniesta played a minimal role ever since he was declared fit. But with the absence of left winger, Thierry Henry, he may want to give Iniesta more minutes tonight, though he wouldn’t want to confirm anything yesterday.

There is another appeal to this night match up, revenge. Back in 1997, Barcelona, at the Camp Nou, was humbled by Dynamo Kiev 0 – 4, thanks to a marvelous performance by a young striker named Andriy Shevchenko, who scored a hat-trick. Today at 33, after a glorious career, he is back with Dynamo Kiev. Another player present for Dynamo Kiev tonight, who was present on that terrible night for Barcelona is goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskyy.

Finally, the incentive for Barcelona to win its fourth Champions League title, with the final to be held in the Santiago Barnabeau on the 22nd May 2010, starts with the match tonight.
